Neumann.Berlin enters the close-range pickup market

German microphone expert Neumann.Berlin announced its first product series specifically designed for close-range music pickups. The system is designed to improve the stability and service life of live and stage performances. There are nine installation solutions that allow users to find the best acoustic positioning while protecting the instrument.

Product portfolio manager Stephan Mauer explained: “We have been dissatisfied with the sound provided by electret solutions for some time. Both technicians and artists want greater substance, higher mid-to-low frequency accuracy, and greater Openness. At the same time, we hope to finally be able to produce an electret microphone with stable performance so that sound engineers do not have to constantly deal with production tolerances that affect sound level and frequency response."

Neumann's developers have spent six years researching the capsule and the production process necessary to achieve this goal. KK 14 has the smallest self-noise and a very high maximum sound level of 152dB, which is said to provide the perfect effect for very quiet and very loud musical instruments.

The system has nine options and can be connected to brass, stringed and stringed instruments, pianos, drums and percussion instruments. "Our field tests quickly showed that all users want to be able to locate the microphone reliably and safely," Mauer added. "Their other common desire is to avoid damaging the sensitive surfaces of the instrument. This gave birth to self-adjusting, spring-loaded systems and newly developed installation concepts for specific applications."

Ralf Oehl, CEO of Neumann, believes that this new system marks the beginning of a new reference: "We are proud that we have successfully redefined the potential of electret capsules. This is the first time that they are not just for demanding technical requirements. A compromise solution for the situation. With this product, we have created a new reference for truly natural, neutral and reliable sound-even in challenging technical or acoustic situations."

Typical users of this microphone system include churches, orchestras, theaters, music productions, concert halls, big bands, brass bands and drummers. Thanks to connecting cables with 3.5 mm jacks, Lemo, MicroDot or four-pin mini XLR connectors, the system is compatible with all standard bodypack wireless settings.
